KLAUS FLEMING
BIOGRAPHY

Klaus Fleming from Äänekoski, originally named Klaus Fleming Ja Nuijat, was formed in 1980 by Jyrki Salmijärvi. The band, inspired by The Beach Boys, played cheerful pop songs about girls, fast cars and ice cream. The early incarnation of the band featured members like Timo Harakka (who later became known as a journalist and columnist in several medias) and Terho Vuorinen, but it wasn't until Juha Hämynen joined the band in 1981 that the band became more active. At this time the band's name was shortened to Klaus Fleming. Also Vuorinen and Harakka left the band.

In the next few years the band played gigs here and there, and in 1983 got their first (and only) single out, when Tiedä en was released. Before that they had recorded a track for Suomi-rock 1 compilation, an album that introduced new bands from around Finland. At this point band members started moving away from Äänekoski, and Klaus Fleming withered away.

In 2009 Hämynen released a CD that included previously unreleased songs from an early demo tape, plus live material from the same year. The CD, called Kesä kellarissa, wasn't officially available in stores: only a limited amount was made, mostly for promotional and personal use.

After Klaus Fleming Salmijärvi has played in various projects, some of them with his old bandmate Olli Havu. In the 1980's Hämynen, Vuorinen and Havu had a short-lived band called Ollie & The Honeycandels. In the 2000's Hämynen has played in Old Dudes.
